How To Get Into Wakeboarding For Your Family And Friends
Wakeboards
Wakeboarding is an cool sport that anyone can love if they get off to the right start. Learning to wakeboard is a sport that anyone with a cottage on the water, as well as a boat, can do and it's great for your friends too.
Just follow these steps and you’ll be having good times wakeboarding before you know it.
1. Wakeboards
The most important part. If you are getting started or you want to get a board that your family can use to check out wakeboarding, you don’t want to get an advanced wakeboard. Very high-end wakeboards will be too difficult to control and you will fall more than you ride! Wakeboards such as the Liquid Force Trip Wakeboard are a great choice.
Ask for a board that has a continuous rocker and do not get the more advanced 3-stage rocker.

For board length, you want to pick a wakeboard the is correct for your weight. Here are the lengths we recommend:
Weight: 90-160 Ibs.
Length: 134 cm
Weight: 160-200 Ibs.
Size: 138 cm
Weight: 200 Ibs.
Size: 142 cm or longer
2. Wakeboard Bindings
For wakeboard bindings there are closed toe and open toe. Beginners should get an open toe binding, as will people that want a binding that can work for a few foot sizes.
Chose the Binding based on your shoe size. For Bindings sized as small, medium, large or x-large, you should try them on to ensure you get the right fit.
3. The One-Size-Fits-All Wakeboard
If you want a wakeboard and binding that you and several family members can use, or that can be left at your cottage for anyone to use, we suggest getting an average board, such as a 138 and a M/L binding. Just remember that if someone has smaller feet, they should consider passing rather than risk being hurt. You can also get two sets of bindings as you can quickly switch bindings on the same board.
4. Wakeboard Boats
Your boat has to be able to tow someone behind it on a wakeboard at about 18-25 mph. If you have an aluminum fishing boat with a 20hp motor, that won’t cut it!
You also want a boat that has a decent wake and you want a hook on the back of the boat to attach a tow rope to.
5. Good Wakeboard Ropes & Handles
You need a wakeboard rope & handle. These don’t cost that much, so I suggest you get one. A ski rope will stretch, so you don't want to use a ski rope. The rope and handle will last you a lifetime, so it's wise to pay for a good one that is tangle-free and has a comfortable grip.
